**TL;DR**: Context search maps words that appear on photos (a brand on a jersey, a sponsor board, a zone sign) to one display tag. Participants search that tag. It sits on [BibTrack](/products/bibtrack/), next to bib and name search, not instead of FaceFind.

Why sponsor and brand search is a different job
-----------------------------------------------

Selfie search answers “photos of me.” Bib search answers “photos of this number.” Organisers still get a third request: show every photo with the title sponsor on course, the brand on a jersey, or the activation booth. Scrolling 30,000 images is not a delivery plan.

That is why **search event photos by sponsor** is a useful query even when keyword tools barely measure it. The buyer is an organiser or photographer who has to prove coverage to a sponsor, or a participant who remembers a brand on a kit rather than a bib. FaceFind and BibTrack do not solve that.

Generic “photo keywording” search is for stock photographers tagging IPTC. Context search is narrower: map words that appear on event photos to one canonical display tag, then let people search that tag in the gallery.

How context search works
------------------------

You list keywords that might be readable on a photo, and the tag participants should see. Several keywords can share one tag. A cycling sponsor might map `look` and `pedal` to the display tag **LOOK**. Searching either word, or the tag, returns the same set.

### Words on the photo

Jersey marks, boards, banners, saddle cloths, zone signs: anything the camera can read as text.

### One display tag

Keep one spelling per sponsor. LOOK, not Look / look / Look Cycling as three galleries.

### Search in the gallery

Participants type the brand or keyword. Type-ahead suggests tags from your mapping.

Context search requires Bib Search. It is an add-on in Photo Configuration, not a separate product. If Bib Search is off, the context endpoints stay closed.

How to set it up
----------------

1. Enable **Bib Search**, then enable **Context Search** in Photos → Configuration.
2. Add mappings. Upload a CSV, or type rows: the word that might appear, and the tag to show.
3. Save configuration. Staged toggles do nothing until you click Save.
4. Process photos so readable text can be associated with those tags.
5. For misses, use **Tools → Manual Context Tagging** (beta) to attach the same canonical tags to a specific photo.

Keep tags boring and stable. Sponsors change logos; they should not change the gallery label mid-event. If you also offer [name search](/blog/search-race-photos-by-name/), that mapping is a different CSV. Do not mix person names into context tags.

Where this earns its place
--------------------------

### Sponsor proof for races

Pull every photo with the title sponsor on a board, arch, or jersey instead of browsing the finish folder.

### Cycling and kit brands

Riders remember a brand on a jersey more often than a race number. Map the marks you actually photograph.

### Conferences and activations

Booth names, stage partners, and zone labels become search terms for attendees and the sales team.

### Schools and clubs

Houses, teams, or class names on kit can group photos when bibs are not used.

How it sits with FaceFind and BibTrack
--------------------------------------

Context search does not find a person. It finds a labelled moment. Use it beside, not instead of, the identity searches:

- [FaceFind](/products/facefind/) for selfie search.
- [BibTrack](/products/bibtrack/) for race numbers, plus [name search](/blog/search-race-photos-by-name/) when you have a start list.
- [Manual bib tagging](/blog/manual-bib-tagging-after-ai/) for numbers the pipeline missed.
- Manual context tagging for sponsor tags the pipeline missed.

The [photo timeline](/blog/event-photo-timeline-multiday-gallery/) is still the right tool when someone remembers a time of day rather than a brand. Sponsor search is for the commercial layer of the same gallery.

FAQ
---

### Is context search a separate 9Pic product?

No. It is a Bib Search add-on in Photo Configuration. Participants search a display tag. You control the mapping.

### Can I turn it on without bib search?

No. Context search is integrated with bib-based search. Enable Bib Search first.

### What if a logo is visible but the text is not read?

Attach the canonical tag with Manual Context Tagging on that photo. Keep the same spelling you used in the mapping.

### Is this the same as stock-photo keywording?

No. Stock keywording is for selling images on agencies. This mapping is for people searching an event gallery by sponsor, brand, or zone.

Next steps
----------

List the brands and zones you actually photograph, map a few keywords to each display tag, and save Context Search with Bib Search. Then check one sponsor query the way a partner would. [Book a demo](/contact/) if you want that mapping designed for a race or conference.

Make sponsor photos searchable
------------------------------

Bring the brands on course or on stage. We will map keywords to display tags next to bib, name, and selfie search.
